One of the things I’ve learned over the years doing psychic readings and practicing mediumship is that the more I trust what I’m getting, the better the reading. It can be hard to learn to trust the information because it can often sound random or even completely crazy. But often, that information ends up being the most profound message from spirit or the most insightful psychic insight.

I learned long ago that in order to give the best readings, I have to let go of my need to always be right. Otherwise, I could miss out on some important evidence someone needs to confirm the presence of their loved one in spirit. Or, worse, I could even confuse them and convince them the spirit they thought was present might not be there at all!

Crime of Omission

When I first started practicing my psychic abilities and getting in touch with the spirit world, I was so afraid of being wrong that I sometimes held back information entirely. I can remember more than once doing practice readings and getting feedback afterwards where someone would mention something that I held back and I would kick myself for not having said it.

It seems that the more specific the information received, the greater the fear of being wrong, and the greater the temptation to omit the information. I often see this in mediumship or psychic practice circles. Someone will bring through a spirit communicator, or get psychic information, and present it to the recipient. But when the recipient gives feedback, they will mention a detail (e.g. name, occupation, passing condition) and the psychic or medium will react with some form of “I was going to say that!”.

Well, if you didn’t give it when you got it, you can’t really get credit for it after the fact. That would be like turning in a test with a blank answer, and then trying to convince the teacher later you knew the answer but just didn’t put it down. Maybe you did, maybe you didn’t. But do that often enough and the teacher is likely to start thinking you’re not being honest and they may start to question your integrity!

The same holds true when reading for others. You’re going to build more trust by allowing for the option of being wrong than you will by coming back later and trying convince someone you were right but just didn’t speak up.

Thankfully, I learned that sometimes the craziest, most random information received will lead to the most incredible reaction from the person receiving the reading. So it has gotten easier for me to give what I get over time.

Can You Vague That Up For Me?

I recall one instance where a spirit who had passed as a teenager came to me while I was giving a psychic reading to his mother. He very clearly showed me that he played football in high school. I even saw him running in his white cleats on the green football field. But he also didn’t seem like the typical high school jock to me so I started to question the information.

This particular reading was by email and couldn’t confirm evidence as I went. So rather than just state that information as is, I hedged my bets and made the information more generic. I wanted this woman to know her son was with her so I tried to play it safe. So I told her that her son showed me that he played sports and that I said I saw him running in on some kind of area with green around it and that he had on white shoes.

She responded later, confirming how meaningful the reading was for her and validating almost all the evidence I gave. But said the one thing she didn’t understand was the reference to running because he wasn’t a fast runner and never did track or soccer. But she mentioned he was on the football team!

So by not being specific, I had actually confused the evidence that was presented to me by the spirit communicator clear as day. I have seen similar situations play out in development circles. I believe a great deal of evidence that gets a “No” from the recipient is often because the medium has taken something specific and made it generic and unrecognizable as I did with this young football player.

Another common way this plays out is when a medium receives a name from Spirit but is afraid to give it. Especially if the name is unusual. Names are so concrete. Black and white. Right or wrong! It is scary to blurt them out!

So, many mediums will water it down and give the first initial of the name instead. I have been guilty of doing this myself.

But guess what? I learned that over time the accuracy of giving initials is no better than giving names! I believe that is because if Spirit is giving us a name as evidence it will be accurate (enough) and will be recognized by the recipient. But the moment we begin to question it in our minds and try to water it down out of fear, we have already introduced low vibration energy – fear and ego – into the mix. So we’re actually more likely to get it wrong.

Fool for Spirit

I have learned that I have to check my ego and be willing to look like a fool. Because mediumship and psychic information isn’t scientific, even the best readings are never going to be absolutely 100 percent accurate all the time. But, paradoxically, the more we are willing to risk looking like a fool, the more often we will actually deliver the strongest readings.
